​On a weekly basis, GRANT crew stood in solidarity with Arad, a very active member of the refugee community in Lutruwita (Tasmania).
​GRANT helped facilitate and marshal a 'Rally for Refugees' in 2021, where multiple Tasmanian refugees spoke, including Arad.

We strongly believe we need to put our community and its health before the profits of massive corporations. But big corporations sometimes have different ideas and pokies represent one of those evils. Because of the money involved they can magically nudge government to get some tax breaks and weaker laws to be able to scrounge a few more coins off our vulnerable community.
This is exactly what's happening now with the government introducing legislation to parliament to split up licenses that will make pokies reform harder in the future and will benefit big business at the expense of our community and small pubs. We are calling for stronger laws to protect our community from gambling addiction and large loses.

In 2021, GRANT members took to the streets to advocate for safer gambling legislation in Lutruwita (Tasmania).
It was a great time and we really raised some awareness.
fish farms/salmon anger
On Saturday's, whilst the Salamanca market was on in Hobart, members from the GRANT community would gather out the front of the Tassal Salmon Shop in Salamanca Square to educate the community on the many problems surrounding the farming of Tasmanian salmon.
There is a rapid development of salmon farms happening around Tasmania, with the following only a few of the problems associated with the unsustainable practise:

The cramped environments in fish farms allow for disease to spread rapidly from fish to fish.

Many off-shore fish farms let faeces and food waste fall directly into the ocean below.

Farmed salmon flesh is dyed pink as their poor diet has made the flesh grey

Tasmania's sheltered river estuaries and bays do not have the capacity to sustain a high of production.

What you can do:

Ask TasSal and Petuna on their social media accounts to halt any expansion of their fish farms and to stop polluting our pristine waterways and coastlines.

Read the book Toxic by Richard Flanagan, to get a more in-depth overview of the ins and outs of the salmon industry and how it is causing irreversible harm to our marine environment.

Talk to your friends and family about this issue and ask them to stop supporting companies like HuonAquaculture that are profiting while polluting of our rivers and oceans.​​
